Sailing in Maremma is a unique and unforgettable experience.

Anyone sailing here between the Gulf of Follonica and the Argentario will fall in love with the area and certainly return. The crystal blue sea, the ever-present pleasant breeze, the emerald-green pinewoods, the steep and spectacular coastline hiding secret coves, the Islands of Giannutri, Giglio, Montecristo, Pianosa unforgettable natural rounding marks… All this is a true joy for the eyes of all seamen and represents a perfect race area for sailing competitions. Over the years Maremma has hosted some of the most important international racing events thanks to the ports of La Marina di Scarlino, Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia, Marina di Grosseto, Talamone, Porto Santo Stefano e Cala Galera. These are amongst the safest harbours in Italy and their Yacht Clubs are well-known for their ability to flawlessly organize high profile sailing competitions. It is not by chance that the Olympic medal windsurfer Alessandra Sensini comes from Maremma: she is the best athlete in the history of Italian sailing and throughout the years refined her talent surfing the sea and mastering the wind on our waters.

Maremma’s thermal breeze, here known as Maestrale, blows year-round every afternoon. The Island of Elba and the Island of Corsica offer the coast a natural shelter thereby ensuring a temperate climate from the spring throughout the winter. Thanks to these outstanding conditions one can go sailing 12 months out of the year and thousands of sailors flock to Maremma from March to October to take full advantage of the climate.

Sailing Sailing

The sail racing area stretches from the Gulf of Follonica, to the coast between Puntone di Scarlino and Punta Ala, continuing until Castiglione della Pescaia and Marina di Grosseto and reaching Talamone, Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. The technical quality of the races and the organizational ability of the clubs are recognized worldwide. There are countless international events which take place in Maremma Tuscany every year.
